Air Force Museum F21

Air Force Museum F21

Luleå

The Air Force Museum is located immediately outside the main entrence of Norrbotten Air Wing, F21, which is an operational unit of the Swedish Air Force. The displays in the museum tell in detail the story of the defence of the air space over northern Norrland, with its often extreme climate, from the beginning of the 1940s.

The collection reflects the history of F21 from 1941 to the present day. The exhibition indoors shows developments in ten-year periods, and includes objects and photographs from most of the sections that made up an air wing, including the air defence organisation. In addition the museum has a special display on the operations of Air Wing F19, the Swedish volunteer air wing in Finland, during the Winter War of 1939-40.
Many of the fixed wing aircraft and helicopters that have been flown over the years are on show outside the museum, together with airfield emergency vehicles, radar installations and an air defence tower.
The museum will also retain a number of military vehicles for display purposes.
