  Gotland Military Museum

  TingstädeThe collections of the museum were previously held at the Gotland Regiment. They have now been transferred to the historically significant site, Förrådsområdet (“The Store Area”), which was part of the fortress at Tingstäde.

  Hemsö Fortress

  HärnösandDuring Second World War the goverment decided that the coastal defences of Norrland should be reinforced. The Hemsö Fortress was one component of this reinforcement, located in the Storrå Mountain (140 metres) on Hemsö, north of Härnösand, the fortress was ready for use in 1957.

  Karlsborg Fortress Museum

  KarlsborgThe Karlsborg fortress was built in accordance with a defence plan from 1819, which determined that a central defence was to be created in the central part of Sweden. The fortress was principally for storage, but it could also serve as a secondary capital for the country.

  Maritiman – Göteborg’s maritime adventure centre

  GöteborgMaritiman – Göteborg’s maritime adventure centre lies at anchor at the boundary between sea and land. Maritiman experience centre has collected 20 museum ships at one place, making the centre one of the world’s largest experiences of floating vessels.

  EnköpingThe Teleseum will be a telecommunications museum of military history that will display systems and equipment for military command of various levels.

  The Air Force Museum

  LinköpingThe Air Force Museum is a technology and popular-history museum, with exhibitions on the development of military aviation from the early 20th century up to the present day. In the museum you can experience the tragic story of the Swedish DC-3 plane that was shot down by Russian fighter aircraft in 1952.

  The Army Museum

  StockholmSweden has participated during the past 150 years in many peace-keeping missions.The history of the thousands of men and women who have served in these missions, leading in some cases to injury or loss of life, has not received the attention it deserves. This is now to be changed through a new exhibition at the Army Museum in Stockholm.

  The Arsenal (opens 2011)

  SträngnäsA new national military vehicle museum is being built in Strängnäs. The museum will be one of the largest in the world, and is expected to open in the summer of 2012.

  The Artillery Museum

  KristianstadThe Artillery Museum lies just south of Kristianstad on the exercise fields of the now disbanded Wendes Artillery Regiment, and it functions also as the Army Museum magazine for artillery piecis.

  The Brigade Museum (opens 2012)

  KarlstadThe Swedish Brigade Museum in Värmland is currently being constructed. It will display the development of the brigade system and its associated units such as the infantry, the artillery and other support functions.

  The Defence Museum

  BodenThe main exhibition is about the 20th century military history up to today with local, regional and international perspectives. In the exhibition there is a big model of the garrison and fortress of Boden among a lot of other things.

  The Garrison- and Air Defence Museum

  Halmstad The new Garrison- and Air Defence Museum was opened in the autumn of 2007 in the “Soldier’s House” next to the regimental grounds. A comic-book figure, 91 Karlsson, is one of the high points of the museum. The museum is also the Army Museum magazine for air Defence pieces.

  The Garrison Museum

  SkövdeThe museum shows the history of the Västergötland units – infantry, cavalry, armoured units and supply troops – from the middle ages to the present day, focusing on the story of the individual soldier as an element in the grand context.

  The Home Guard Museum

  VällingeThe Home Guard was established in 1940, while the Second World War was in progress, as a voluntary defence organisation for protecting the home front.

  The Kalix Line Museum

  KalixThe museum, which collaborates with Mariebergs Viltfarm (a company that runs a hotel and organises leisure activities), displays equipment, weapons and vehicles that have been used within the Kalix Line.

  The Mobile Coastal Artillery Museum

  KarlskronaA large number of coastal forts are preserved on Aspö outside Karlskrona. These forts protect the entry to Sweden’s most important naval base. The museum mainly shows the mobile artillery pieces.

  KarlskronaThe attractive and much discussed building of the Naval Museum is located on a jetty extending right out into the waters of the formel naval base on the island Stumholmen in Karlskrona. Situated only a stone’s throw from the city centre, the museum presents the opportunity for both young and old to experience the excitement of history, have their imagination inspired and discover new things.

  The Red mountain fort

  BodenNow is your chance to visit the Red mountain fort, one of the five fortresses of the once top secret Fortress of Boden. The Red mountain forts was closed on 1 January 2000. It is preserved with all its equipment intact and now listed as an historic building open to the public.

  The Victoria Fort

  VuollerimThe 1950s was dominated by the Cold War and the arms race between East and West, which involved atomic weapons, space and the establishment of spheres of influence around the world, with Sweden as a non-aligned country sitting on the border between the two sides. It was then the Lule defence line of which Victoria fortress was an important part of, was built.
